What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy allow you to explore areas of personal difficulty. It provides space to explore and find a deeper understanding of yourself and discover the resources within yourself that can be enabling.

Psychotherapy involves becoming aware of past patterns, exploring limitations and having faith in yourself to make changes.

For some people it may provide an experience of acceptance while for others it is a way of coping with life.

How long will it take?

This depends entirely on you and why you seek to begin the journey of self discovery.

You may have a specific issue to discuss or you may want to make deeper changes in your life and pursue longer-term work.

As a guideline:

  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy or counselling - short term - 12 -16 sessions - once a week
  • Psychodynamic counselling or psychotherapy - long term - once a week (up to 50 minutes)
  • Psychodynamic psychoanalysis - open ended - twice (or more) times a week

    We will decide together on the duration and frequency of therapy required in your first session.
